Dot Mainwaring Foundation
Dot died on the 1 February, 2010, following a short illness with a brain tumour.
She was still playing hockey in the November before and was teaching until the end of the Christmas term.
The Dot Mainwaring Foundation has been established to continue, in a small way, the work that Dot did to promote all aspects of sport and physical activity to primary school children and to encourage excellence.
We cannot replicate the energy and enthusiasm Dot generated, nor can we establish the personal relationships which Dot established with all those who came into contact with her.
We do believe, however, that we can fill some of the gaps.
The Foundation has been established as a Charitable Trust with the following objectives: The advancement of education in sport of children and young people (in particular but not exclusively those of primary school age) in Bradford and the surrounding area, with the aim of:
(1) developing their skills, capacities and capabilities so as to enable them to participate in society as independent, mature and responsible citizens; and
(2) encouraging interest in sport and promoting good health.
The foundation, Registered No. 1137297, will work primarily, but not exclusively, in the area covered by the Aire Valley Sports Partnership in the Bradford district.
Key sports will be those in which Dot had a particular interest they are hockey, netball, squash, badminton, tennis and mountaineering.
