Bradford pupils give netball a High 5! 7th May 2009 The Bradford primary school netball season came to a dramatic climax with 9 schools competing for the title of Bradford Champions at Manningham Sports Centre on Wednesday 29th May. All of the schools who were competing had already progressed through their cluster and School Sport Partnership rounds; and as expected the standard of netball on show was very high. Pam Hoyle, PDM Bradford East SSP said "I was really impressed by the skills shown by both the girls and boys who took part, in what is only the 2nd year of this competition. There were signs of some real talent on show, which bodes well for the future of netball in Bradford" Each school took part in the group stage with the winners from the groups playing off in a final and the second place teams playing off for third place. The final was a closely fought game with Nessfield clinching it with two goals late in the second half to come out winners 5-3 against Sandal. Ryecroft and Thackley played for third place with Ryecroft wining 4-1. All teams were encouraged to play in a sporting manner. Schools were asked to rank the teams they played against to decide the winners of the Fairplay award Myrtle Park and Sandal came out on top in each of their groups. Kym Hammond, Competition Manager, would like to thank Shipley Netball Club for there support in providing umpires for the event and wish good luck to Nessfield who will be representing Bradford at the West Yorkshire Youth Games in June! |
