Principles Behind Inclusion
The National Curriculum for PE includes a detailed statement on inclusion, which instructs schools to modify their study programmes to provide relevant and appropriately challenging work across the spectrum.
This may mean choosing knowledge, skills and understanding from earlier or later Key Stages, so that pupils are given the chance to make sustained and demonstrable progress.
In PE, the level descriptions provided in the National Curriculum indicate progression in the areas of knowledge, skills and understanding and provide the basis on which to judge a pupil's performance.
The Youth Sport Trust have a section on their website which is designed to assist teachers using these descriptions and, supported by the use of "P" scales, which outline learning and attainment before Level 1, to accurately assess the development of young disabled people and allow them to measure their success.
