Beckfoot Bradford Basketball Winners!!A message to tell you about one of the most impressive school performances i have ever been part of! It was the U14 Basketball tournament at Bradford College tonight against the SSP winners from all over Bradford. We took a team of 5 year 8 and 4 year 9. Last year about this time I messaged everyone saying how mature the team were and ended up coming second. Tonight these 9 boys were PERFECT from the start! They beat; Challenge 18 - 1; Appleton 30 - 0; Beat Grange 16 - 6; Ilkley Grammar 16 - 8 and got through to the finals against their nemesis Buttershaw. Throughout they were not only playing amazing basketball (30points in ten minutes is more than in adult games) but the way they conducted themselves was second to none. They said not one word to the student referees throughout. And what made me realize they are a special bunch of lads is how they cheered and clapped the weak teams when they managed to scored a basket! Amazing maturity from 12&13 year olds. In the final they went behind early but hung on until the last five minutes when they stepped up and ended up scoring in the last minute to win 11-8! They were crowned Bradford champions, and are now through to verse the champions from Leeds for the West Yorkshire title. Bare in mind 5 of the team are only in y8. James Banton won most valuable player of the tournament Dave Lawal - PE A big thank-you to everyone involved in making Dance Night such a successful evening. It was a sell-out event and people had to be turned away at the door! Students showcased their Dance talent from all year groups and it was great to see such a large number of boys getting involved with dance this year. A full range of Dance styles were on show throughout the evening from Break Dance, Street Dance, Body Popping, Tap, Jazz, Ballet, Cheerleading, to Contemporary and Acrobatics. The audience thoroughly enjoyed the night and students were excited by having the opportunity to develop their Dance skills and experience performing in front of a live audience.
